THE TASTE OF TRANQUILITY

It was the year 1840 in Lesotho, when a number of French missionaries presented King Moshoeshoe with colourful indigo fabric that came to be known locally as shoeshoe.

The name of the cloth eventually changed to shweshwe, labelled so because of the swish-swish sound the women’s skirts and dresses made when they walked.

The swish-swish sound is also reminiscent of the calming sound of the ocean lapping against the South African Peninsula, which inspired us to incorporate the traditional shweshwe design into our wine labels, and Lazy Bay Wine was born.
